The race for the number one spot in the Premier League table is beginning to intensify and has taken a different shift in terms of top four occupants since the reintroduction of Manchester United back into the top four position after over a year out.
Following this feat, Old Trafford boss – Sunday night warned Manchester United’s rivals they are in big trouble when his side hit their best form.
United went into the top four spot on the League table following Sunday’s Premier League’s lunch time kick-off that saw Louis van Gaal’s men scrapped out a hard-fought win over Everton. Thanks to surprising displays from United’s first choice goalie, David De Gea.
However, Old Trafford boss Van Gaal was still disappointed in his side’s display as he grumbled about their second-half performance against the Toffees.
But he is happy they have got into the Champions League places without playing well as he sent out a warning to their rivals for a top-four spot.
He said: “We are not playing good but we are already fourth in the table. That is what I have told my players.
“What is coming when we are playing well?
“We have to do it for 90 minutes. We have played very good for 45 minutes already, sometimes for 50 or 60 but we have to do it for 90 and that needs time.”
The Dutchman heaped praise on saviour David De Gea after the United keeper pulled off three stunning late saves to deny Leon Osman twice and Bryan Oviedo from nicking an equaliser – after also stopping a Leighton Baines penalty in the first half.
He said: “When you hold the penalty and then in the dying seconds you make three magnificent saves, then you are great because you win the game because of that.”
The match was immediately followed by Chelsea’s 2-0 thumping of Arsenal at Stamford Bridge that saw Jose Mourinho’s men extend their top spot lead as well as Arsenal dropping further down the log with Manchester United moving back up and unto the Champions League fourth spot after such a long time away.
The remarks made by LVG is a clear warning to the rest of the title contenders as he reckons that the battle will be fierce should United begin to click in the coming games.
