Arsenal keen on bringing goal hitman, Edison Cavani to the Emirates in the Winter.
Arsenal look set to storm the January transfer window with several reports suggesting that Gooners boss, Arsene Wenger would be ready to splash the cash with big money moves set to be made when the winter transfer window opens in less than 83 days from now.
Arsene Wenger has sanctioned the move for unsettled Uruguayan striker, Edinson Cavani, according to reports.
Wenger has asked for negotiations to begin with PSG over the possibility of bringing Cavani to the Emirates in January, after the continuous struggles by the former Napoli man to replicate his Italian form in France.
The explosive forward has failed to be the force he was during his time under Walter Mazzari where he banged 78 goals in 104 League games over 3 seasons.
A dynamite with the ball and a workaholic without it, Cavani is one of the world’s deadliest predators, who’d walk into most teams in Europe, but the stature assumed by Zlatan Ibrahimovich, in ego and quality, prior to Cavani’s arrival in Paris has required the Uruguayan to play second fiddle to the big swede. Laurent Blan has had to deploy Cavani to the left of the forward line which is not his preferred position.
This has seen him turn out very underwhelming performances not having as many chances in front of goal as he had been used to. Of more recent concern, though, is his inability to even perform at present in Ibra’s absence, looking painfully short of confidence and lost in a world of no return. And then, there is the popular notion that the Ligue 1 is not really the place where the biggest stars gain notice, Ibra himself having toured Italy and Spain before making the ‘retirement’ move to France. The Agueros, Costas and Lewandoskis are not playing in the Ligue 1; even Falcao took notice too.
It all adds up to the likelihood of Arsenal making a successful enquiry for the top marksman, though PSG will be looking to recoup much, if not all, of the £55m paid to Napoli for him. Having splashed the cash over Ozil and Alexis over the past 12 months, there is the feeling that Wenger would not hold on so much to the hand brake with regards to the fee to be offered for Cavani’s services, some sources suggesting the frenchman may even make so bold as to shatter the previous Arsenal transfer records to get his man.
He has professed his admiration for Cavani, adding the curious remark that the 27-year old may not be utilised to his maximum potential at the Parc des Princes – perhaps, something he feels he can correct.
Sami Khedira could be Arsenal’s first signing in January.
Meanwhile, Khedira’s much anticipated January move to Arsenal appears to be drawing closer to a confirmed done deal as a fee of £10m has reportedly been agreed for his services, with Madrid willing to recieve half-loaf rather than lose the whole flour bag next summer.
These are two deals which, if pulled off, will see Arsenal strongly considered again as fierce favourites for titles – the place where we rightly belong.
