Reiss Nelson is close to signing an extended contract at Arsenalafter making his Premier League debut in Sunday’s 3-2 win against Southampton.
Now aged 18, Nelson joined Arsenal as a seven-year-old and has been identified by Arsene Wenger as having the potential to make a career in the Premier League, particularly because of what is regarded as a rare dribbling ability.
The emergence of Nelson and Eddie Nketiah, coupled with the arrivals over the past year of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, as well as a new contract for Mesut Ozil, means that Arsenal are not looking to add any attacking players this summer.
“Aubameyang is on fire, Lacazette as well and Danny Welbeck scored two on Sunday,” said Nelson. “The opposition should be scared by the fire-power we have got.”
Nelson signed his first professional contract two years ago and has this season made 15 first-team appearances, largely in the Europa League and is also contention to start against CSKA Moscow in Thursday’s quarter-final second leg, especially in the context of Mkhitaryan’s knee ligament injury.
“It is a big achievement to sign for a big club like Arsenal so I’m just delighted with the contract and hopeful that I can sign it soon,” said Nelson.
