Arsenal are preparing a summer bid worth £12m for Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to reports.
The Gunners are preparing for a midfield overhaul this summer with Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky expected to leave the club when their contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
Wenger has revealed that there is enough cash for him to spend next summer as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of next season. And now transfermarketweb via the Metro claims the Gunners are interested in bringing Wanyama into the club as they attempt to strengthen the spine of their team.
Wenger is prepared to submit a bid worth about £12m for one of his top targets. The Frenchman is a long term admirer of Wanyama and revealed in December that he rates the defensive midfielder highly.
The midfielder is stalling on signing a new contract at the St Mary’s and will have just a year left in his current deal at the end of the season. Southampton could be forced to sell him for as low as £12m despite his obvious quality or risk losing him for nothing at the end of his deal.
Wanyama has been superb for Southampton since joining the club in 2013 and was a target for Tottenham last summer. But he wasn’t allowed to join Tottenham as Ronald Koeman was not prepared to lose both Wanyama and Schneiderlin in the same summer.
