Arsenal skipper Mikel Arteta has sustained a calf injury bringing his participation in the Gunners pre-season to an end.
The 33-year-old midfielder who has not played a single game for the Gunners in 9 months after picking of a calf injury in November last year was expected to use the pre-season games to work his way back to fitness.
He looked well on his way to fitness after training with the team in Singapore, but fell short of fitness for their 4-0 win over an All Star Singapore team.
His recent history of setbacks will bring back memories of Abou Diaby who left the club this summer after gracing the treatment table more times than the pitch for Arsenal.
The 33 year old who just recently signed a one year contract extension is yet to know how long he will be out, but it is expected that he will just have a bit-part role when he finally returns after the emergence of Francis Coquelin and the prospective addition of a midfielder this summer.
