Arsenal legend Martin Keown believes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott have been boosted by Jack Wilshere’s move to Bournemouth.

Walcott and Chamberlain have been in fine form this season, pushing each other for a spot in the starting xi. Walcott already has eight goals this season while Chamberlain has already surpassed his goal tally of last season.

The duo had very poor campaigns on a personal level last year and while many were expecting them to be sold in the summer transfer window, Wenger decided to keep them. Their performances this term has vindicated the French man’s decision and Keown believes Wilshere’s exit is the secret to their fine form.

Wilshere was sent out on loan to Bournemouth in August after falling out of Wenger’s first team and Keown believes the midfielder’s exit gave the duo a kick on their backside.

“I would suggest that Jack Wilshere going on loan to Bournemouth has spurred on both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott,” Keown told the Daily Mail .

“What Arsene Wenger did in letting Jack go was very healthy – it allowed Alex and Theo to have a good look at themselves.

“They will have thought that they needed to start performing or they wouldn’t be at the club, either.

“That one decision has had a positive impact on three players and maybe the decision to sent Jack out on loan was taken with the bigger picture in mind.

“It has certainly made Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain more focused.”

Chamberlain and Walcott’s current form has made definitely improved the quality within our squad, putting us in good position to challenge for the title this year. The duo will be looking to continue their fine form when we face Sunderland this weekend.
