Arsenal proved over the last weekend that despite their poor start to the season, they are still football Kings of North London. The Gunners thumped arch rivals Tottenham Hotspurs, with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez silencing their critiques with barnstorming displays.
While the future of the aforementioned stars remains a subject of huge transfer speculation, Arsenal full back Nacho Monreal reveals that the Gunners dressing room do not the see the players leaving the Emirates anytime soon, this is according to report.
Both stars are in the final year of the contracts and have rebuffed offers for them to extend. Ozil is linked with a move to Manchester United while Alexis Sanchez is linked with a move to Manchester City and if the Gunners do not cash in on them in January, they could walk out of the club as free agents.
Alexis Sanchez was close to joining Manchester City in the summer but the move failed after the Gunners failed to agree a deal for his supposed replacement Thomas Lemar.
Both players are very influential on the pitch for Arsenal as evident in the game against the Lilywhite. Nacho Monreal was quizzed as to what the dressing thinks of the players future as the January transfer window is drawing close. He reckons that they will be at the Emirates for the second half of the season:
“Yes, the feeling is that they will continue.
“At no time have we talked about the possibility of them leaving. Not at all. They are committed to the group and we will see what happens.
“I can’t say much about it. It does not depend on me. The situation is clear. They are two vital players for Arsenal.
“They are two players who end their contracts at the end of the season. If the club want them to stay beyond December [the January transfer window] they will follow.
“Yet, I do not know the club’s intentions. It is other people who are the ones who have to make a decision.”
It will be a huge setback for the Gunners if the players leave but Arsenal as a club is bigger than any player – no need to moan.
