Arsenal are prepared to sign Watford’s striker Odion Ighalo when the summer transfer window opens in July, according to reports.
The Gunners were linked with a move to sign the Nigeria international as well as his strike partner Deeney in the last winter transfer window but Watford weren’t interested in losing any of their star player.
And now the Daily Mirror via the Metro claims Arsenal will continue monitoring the Ighalo’s progress until the summer and has earmarked the Nigerian as its top target this summer.
The North London club is reportedly in search of a striker to compete with Olivier Giroud next season and Wenger thinks Ighalo will be value for money.
The report also claims the North London side are prepared to pay as much as £20m for the striker.
His current club are worried that should the striker shine as he did in the first half of the season, he will attract interest from a number of top clubs and they are now resigned to losing him only for a fee of £20m and above.
Ighalo has been impressive this term and has scored 15 league goals in 29 league appearances for the Hornets this term.
However, whether Ighalo is the kind of striker Wenger is looking for remains to be seen but one thing is sure, Ighalo has a special attribute that has attracted Wenger and Manchester United.
