Liverpool are leading Arsenal in the race to sign Barcelona playmaker Rafinha, claim reports in Spain.

Last week, Sky Sports claimed Rafinha had been offered to Arsenal as the Spanish giants attempt to hasten his exit but Wenger prefers to sign Monaco’s Thomas Lemar and Nice Jean-Michel Seri.

As a result Liverpool are now regarded as favorites to sign the midfielder.

Mundo Deportivo say Liverpool are prepared to spend between £25m and £35m for Rafinha and Barcelona would be delighted if any club comes up with such bid.

Rafinha featured 29 times for Barcelona in the last two years because of injuries, which makes it surprising that Liverpool wants to pay so much for him. It just goes on to show how desperate they are for midfield reinforcements.

However, that isn’t the case at the Emirates, Wenger has enough options at his disposal, although we could do well with more quality, we aren’t in a situation where any player would be an option for us.

Rafinha is a talented player, no doubt, but signing him would be a huge gamble. The amount of time he spent on the injury table in the last two years mean he wouldn’t make any difference in our squad. So why should we sign him?
