Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has backed Arsene Wenger to quit Arsenal on his own terms.
Wenger has come under criticism for the team’s performances this year with fans calling for him to step down as the club’s boss.
The Gunners were touted by neutrals to win the league earlier in the season with other traditional big teams failing to live up to expectation but the team currently sit 11 points behind league leaders Leicester City.
This has infuriated fans with some of the fans unveiling a banner in the game against Hull City last month that read:
“Arsene, thanks for the memories but it’s time to say goodbye.”
However, Redknapp has backed Wenger to remain at Arsenal beyond this season and claimed the 66 year old will only leave when he feels the time is right.
“Arsene will go when he feels like it. I hate to see him get skinned because he has done an amazing job for so many years,” Redknapp said, as quoted by the Express.
“I’d hate to see him go when he’s getting grief because he’s been a great manager of Arsenal.
“He knows when to go, whether it’s this year, next year but when it’s time to go I hope he picks the right time.
“I hate to see him go out by crowds giving him abuse.”
Wenger looks set to see out the remainder of his current contract as the French man is preparing to spend big in this summer’s transfer market.
