Arsenal Legend Paul Merson has urged Arsene Wenger to go all out and sign Antoinne Greizmann, according to reports.
Greizmann has established himself as one of world’s best players over the years and was included in the final three nominees for the 2016 Ballon d’or. His superb form has alerted a lot of top clubs and the forward is currently one of the most sought after players in football today.
Manchester United are believed to be leading the race to sign the French forward and are prepared to offer a world record bid for his services in the summer but Merson reckons Wenger should hijack the move to sign the striker.
Merson believes Arsenal should be looking to sign more world class players to join Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez rather than fret over losing the duo.
“They pay top dollar those Arsenal fans,” Merson told talkSPORT, as quoted by the Express.
“When you’re paying that kind of money you have to be watching world class footballers at the club. You can’t just have two – you should have five and six in my opinion.
“With Griezmann, people go ‘they’ve [Arsenal] got that kind of player’. They haven’t. They’ve got two of them but you could do with another one.
“For me there isn’t a club in the world that wouldn’t want Griezmann.”
Greizmann has scored 13 goals already this season and will definitely be a quality addition to our side.
Wenger was reportedly interested in signing him in the last summer transfer window and will certainly still be interested in signing him at the end of the season. Interest isn’t enough to get a player of such quality, we will have to fight off serious competition from rival clubs for his services and it will be a massive coup if we are able to lure him to the Emirates next summer.
But i’m not putting my hopes on this, the presence of Manchester United will make it difficult for us to compete financially and from all indications, it doesn’t look like we will match or surpass what the Old trafford club is prepared to pay in terms of transfer fee and wages.
