Emile Smith Rowe revealed he could miss the rest of the season with the Arsenal academy after tearing his ankle ligaments.
Smith Rowe tweeted that his MRI scan revealed torn ligaments, meaning he’ll be out for at least the next six to eight weeks.
It appears he picked up the injury in training.
The 17-year-old called the injury “frustrating” given his recent form and progress, but insisted he’ll “be back stronger than ever”.
The news is a big blow to the player himself, but also to the Arsenal academy teams as they head towards the business end of the season.
Smith Rowe has seven goals and four assists in 16 appearances this campaign from the wing and central-midfield.
Five of those goal contributions came in his four appearances in the FA Youth Cup, as the Arsenal u18s made a run all the way to the semi-finals.
Now they’ll have to play their two-legged tie against Blackpool without him. The team are also second in the u18 Premier League table.
We recently did a profile on the youngster in our article on the four stars of the Youth Cup who could make the first team. Hopefully he’ll recover quickly to fulfill that potential.
We wish him the best of luck in his rehabilitation.
