Contract renewals of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have taken a different twist, according to reports.
The duo have been in talks with the club over a new deal since May but talks have dragged on.
With the new round of negotiations set to commence after the international break, reports are claiming the duo have asked for a new salary worth about £250,000 a week. Outrageous isn’t it?
Their current deals are around 140,000 a week and asking for a new deal that is almost twice your current deal seems ridiculous.
The Daily Express claims we are reluctant to meet the duo’s demands. It is believed we are only prepared to offer the players a new deal worth around £180,000 per week.
Former Arsenal midfielder Perry Grooves has aired his opinion on the matter, warning the players to reduce their demands as we won’t pay them over the odds.
Groves told The Sun : “Have Arsenal got the money to spend? Yes they have. Will they get the £250,000 a week they are looking for? I don’t think they will get that.
“They won’t get the money Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Pogba are on.
“That’s not going to happen as the club have a different wage structure [to Manchester United].
Grooves does have a point, we have operated a strict wage structure over the years. We only recently began to pay over the £100,000 mark and our willingness to pay them close to £200,000 shows we are serious about keeping them.
We would like to believe their demands are a consequence of their agents trying to play hardball and the players will wade into the situation and agree to Arsenal’s terms.
