In form winger Theo Walcott has credited the increased competition for places in the starting xi for our superb form this season.
Walcott had a very poor season last year and was written off by many fans who wanted him to be sold in the summer transfer window. He was linked with a move away from the Emirates in the summer but somehow he managed to stay.
The winger has looked like a different player this season and has been in superb form since the start of the campaign. He has now revealed the competition for places this year is keeping everyone on their toes.
The winger scored against Ludogorets taking his tally to eight for the season.
Walcott has attributed our fine start to the season to the increased quality in the squad.
“It’s a great achievement [six straight wins],” he told the club’s official website. “I think we tend to actually start very poorly in the Premier League.
“This year we have obviously had a few additions and they’ve settled in really well, and you can see that. It’s not just the starting XI, it’s the whole squad – 25 of us that are working hard, day in and day out. You can tell that on the pitch because the passion is there.
“There’s always been competition for places when you’re at such a big club. It gets the best out of everyone but when you’re called upon you need to be able to make the difference.
“Everyone’s ready for a very tight Premier League. You can’t really call it now but all we’ve got to do is just control ourselves.
“That’s all we can do, keep on doing that and we’ll be fine I’m sure.”
