Roma have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez, according to reports.
Mahrez is looking to leave Leicester this summer and has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.
Wenger who is a big fan of the forward is apparently keeping tabs on him as an alternative target to Thomas Lemar who is being lined up as a replacement for Sanchez.
And now Roma have joined the race to sign Mahrez, claim Italian publication Leggo via The Daily Cannon.
Arsenal and Leicester have been unable to reach an agreement for Mahrez, despite being in negotiations for about two weeks.
The Foxes are demanding around £50m for the attacker while Arsenal are only willing to pay around £35m. This has plunged the move in doubt with Wenger now focusing his attentions on Lemar who would cost around the same price.
Knowing the financial ability of Italian clubs, it is unlikely that Roma will be able to meet Leicester’s £50m price tag, so his likeliest destination at the moment is still Arsenal.
But as we all know, Wenger will explore all opportunities to sign Lemar and if that fails, we’ll then reconsider a move for Mahrez.
It remains to be seen whether Leicester will reduce its price tag for Roma or stand on their ground.
