Arsenal have been boosted in their attempts to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, according to reports.

The Gunners are reportedly keen on signing the midfielder in the summer with Barcelona and Manchester City also interested in the German international.

According to German publication Bild via footballfancast, Dortmund are willing to cash in on the midfielder and Wenger has identified the 25 year old as a potential summer target.

The Gunners are preparing for a major overhaul of their midfield in the summer with Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Thomas Rosicky set to leave the club.

The midfielder’s contract at BVB expires in the summer of 2017 and Gundogan has refused to sign a new deal at the club and the German club is ready to listen to offers for his services in the summer instead of losing him for free one year later.

The club values the player at £23m, a fee which could be too excessive for a player with just one year left but with the massive transfer budget reportedly given to Wenger for next summer as well as the player’s quality, it could be worth taking the risk considering the nature of the modern day transfer market.

Manchester City are reportedly interested in the midfielder and reports claim Guardiola has made Gundogan one of his priority target ahead of next season.

Gundogan has three goals and seven assists in 35 games for BVB this term, a good return for a deeplying midfielder.
