Arsenal have been given a massive boost in their pursuit of Liverpool star Raheem Sterling.
This report is according to the Metro, who claim that the Gunners could sign the Liverpool man on a free transfer rather than the £50 million earlier quoted by the Merseyside club.
Earlier reports had suggested that Arsenal were willing to splash the cash to land the English International in the summer. But Arsene Wenger could now get him on a free, with latest reports saying that Sterling could run down his contract at Liverpool.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers revealed that 20-year-old forward will not be leaving the club in the summer despite the player refusing to sign a new contract.
He said: “We’ve made our position clear from the beginning and the owners are very much supportive of that.
“Raheem won’t be going anywhere this summer, even if there’s not a deal agreed.”
Sterling has rejected several contract offers to extend his stay at Anfield and looks bound for the exit.
Sterling is on contract with Liverpool until 2017 and Arsenal could then snap him up on a free.
Manchester City are also keen on the Jamaican born star and are reportedly willing to offer him a bumper weekly wage to lure him to Etihad Stadium.
