Arsenal’s hope of signing Sporting Lisbon’s defensive midfielder William Carvalho have been dealt a heavy blow after it was reprted that he will be out for three months with injury.
The 23 year old suffered a stress fracture on his Tibia which will keep him out for 10-12 weeks.
Arsenal had been tracking him for a while with a bid rejected last summer according to reports.
The interest was reignited after an outstanding Euro U21 tournament in Czech Republic for Portugal where he was named Player of The Tournament, leading to a reported bid from Arsenal this summer.
But all that would count for nothing now that it has been confirmed that he has a stress fracture, it would evoke memories of Jack Wilshire’s stress fracture injury that has seen him become a regular on the treatment table.
Carvalho who can also play at centre-back has played 13 times for Portugal after just 60 games for Sporting Lisbon is regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.
