The opinion of many is that Nemanja Matic is the typical defensive midfielder every Premier league club must dream to have; the consensus is that Morgan Schneiderlin is the closest there is at the moment to Matic; the running report now is that Arsenal have an agreement to sign him.
This is according to the Express who refer to a tweet from the Secret Footballer, a twitter account run by a supposed former Premier League player who, it appears, has inside information on some certain deals involving clubs around England.
Schneiderlin is one of the League’s hottest properties this season as he’s so far shown, with his effortless midfield performances, why Southampton were not keen to let him go during the mass exodus – now referred to as eviction – which saw six players leave last summer. He has made comments that seem to suggest a willingness to stay on till the end of the season to see what becomes of their battle for a Champions League place but both Arsenal and United have been keen on enticing him away this January.
Per this Secret Footballer, Arsenal appear to have made a better plea to the 24-year old with a supposed agreement now in place to see him swap the red of the Saints to the Gunners’ red-and-white, though it is does not say whether the process will lead to a deal being sealed this January.
Though Wenger would not publicly admit, Arsenal’s search is every inch as urgent as the need to have cover for central midfield but rather than as a deputy to a crocked Arteta or the floundering Flamini, a strong and established first choice defensive midfielder is sorely demanded at the Emirates and there cannot be an awful lot available out there who can present better credentials than Schneiderlin.
At 24, he blends amongst with the average age of the Gunners’ current team and can form part of a formidable squad with the likes of Kieran Gibbs, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Alexis and Theo Walcott – all under 27 – who can lead Arsenal to finally dominate the Premier league.
He is imperious in the middle of the park as a holding player as was evident against United at Old Trafford and he has now added more goals to his game this term showing an excellent technical side of his game. Wenger now believes he is the perfect man to feel the burning hole in our midfield, adding much needed physicality to the team.
With a medical set for Friday, Arsene looks like he’s got in a defensive midfielder already but Bielik would require some four to five years to grow into the team and it is only sensible that an established figure should be filling the role while he matures.
