Schalke 04 have announced that Max Meyer will “definitely leave” the club when his contract ends at the end of the campaign.
The 22-year-old has been with the German outfit since the age of 14, playing 145 Bundesliga appearances for the club and netting 17 goals since breaking into the first team.
But, he has been unable to come to terms with a new contract in Gelsenkirchen, and sporting director Christian Heidel has now announced that he will leave on a free transfer this summer.
“Max Meyer will leave Schalke this summer,”
“We’re dealing with the situation very professionally. It’s all been very amicable.” – Heidel told journalists at a press conference.
The attacker who is a Germany international has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in the past. However, the North Londoners are expected to face strong competition for his services from the likes of Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, Roma and Bayern Munich
