Chelsea have joined the race to sign Arsenal target Marco Verratti, according to reports.

Verratti is regarded as one of Europe’s most talented centre midfielders and Arsene Wenger is believed to be an admirer of the Italian. Wenger tried to bring him to the Emirates in the past but was unsuccessful in his attempts.

Few weeks ago, it was reported that Verratti had a clash with PSG boss Unai Emery and his future at Paris is now far from certain as a result.

Verratti’s agent Donato Di Campli  also sparked exit rumors when he claimed the midfielder would be open to the idea of living the French club if they are not challenging for major honors and this has reportedly alerted a number of top clubs.

Arsenal, Juventus and Inter Milan were the clubs reportedly keeping tabs on the midfielder’s situation but the Daily Mirror via the Daily Star now suggests that Chelsea have joined the race to sign the Italian.

The report claims Antonio Conte sees Verratti as a perfect replacement for former Gunner Cesc Fabregas who has fallen out of favor at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to sanction a huge spending spree for the Blues which could put them in strong position to sign Verratti.

Though, the competition for Verratti is tough, Ivan Gazidis and co needs to stand up and compete for the midfeider’s signature. We have been made to believe that we are capable of competing with our big spending rivals financially and it is times like this that club chiefs need to back those claims. Not just about the finance, we have to convince Verratti that the Emirates would be the right place for him and hopefully, Wenger will be able to do so.

It will be a big miss if PSG happen to sell Verratti and we miss out on him. Santi Cazorla is already into his thirties and has just a few years of top football left, a young quality midfielder like Verratti would be a perfect heir to the Spaniard.
