Hull City boss Mike Phelan has confirmed his club’s interest in Carl Jenkinson.

Jenkinson has been linked with a move away from the Emirates since Wenger opted for Centre back Gabriel Paulista to play as right back despite the English man being fully fit.

The defender who recovered from a knee injury in September was given the opportunity to play his way into Wenger’s plans this season but failed to impress and now the boss is prepared to let him leave this January.

Hull City who are bottom of the league are looking to strengthen their squad this second half of the season and Phelan has identified the right back position as one he needs to strengthen.

The Hull boss confirmed he is looking to use the loan market to strengthen his squad in January and also claimed they have held discussions about the possibility of signing Jenkinson.

Hull are not the only ones interested in Jenkinson with West Ham and Crystal Palace also said to be in the running to sign the defender and Phelan admits it will be difficult to sign the defender.

‘Yes, he’s been spoken about,’ Phelan talked about signing Jenkinson

‘But there are a few others in the hat for Carl. I would love him to come here. I’ve spoken to staff at Arsenal and I’ve been encouraged by it.

‘But I do also realise that there are other clubs interested in Carl.

‘So that’s where we’re at at the moment and nothing definite has gone ahead and there are others.’

Jenkinson has featured just 38 times in the Premier League for Arsenal since he joined us in 2011 and a move away from the Emirates be it on a temporary deal or a permanent deal will undoubtedly be the best for his development.
