Arsenal have been handed a blow in their bid to land long term star target after recent reports that key rivals have joined the race for the player’s signature in the summer.
Manchester United have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to Ibtimes.
The Gunners were linked with a January bid to sign the striker but the Gabonese insisted he is happy at the Signal Iduna Park and opted against a move to England.
Manchester United have now joined in the race to sign the 26 year old striker next summer as they prepare to bolster their forward line.
The Red Devils are also monitoring the likes of Neymar, Lewandowski and Bale; but with the parent club of the trio unwilling to sell any of them, the Old Trafford side have now turned their attentions to Aubameyang.
The Gunners who have reportedly earmarked getting a top striker this summer as its priority will now have to battle with Manchester United who have enough transfer funds to spend.
Aubameyang is currently one of the most prolific strikers in Europe and already has 27 goals to his name thus far.
Should the striker indicate an interest to leave BVB in the summer, it remains to be seen if Wenger would go into a bidding war with the Old Trafford side for the 26 year old.
Aubameyang who has been a long term target of Arsene Wenger joined BVB from St Ettiene in 2013 and was linked with with a move to Arsenal before his switch to Germany.
