Arsenal are among a host of clubs battling for Charlton Athletic starlet Ezri Konsa, according to the Daily Star.

Gooners shouldn’t be surprised with the number of young talents that have been linked with the club in recent weeks as I expect us to have gotten use to it by now.

Chief executive Ivan Gazidis revealed in our last annual general meeting that we will continue to look out for young talents who we can develop into top players and since then we have been linked with more than a dozen of teenagers. The latest being linked with us now is Charlton Athletic’s Konsa.

Who is Konsa?

Konsa is Charlton Athletic’s 18 year old centre back who joined the club eight years ago and worked his way up through the club’s academy. The youngster broke into the first team in August and has impressed many with his performances, making 13 appearances for his club already this term.

Why are we interested in the winger?

I really can’t tell why we are among the many clubs interested in the player but it could be as a result of the huge potential he has shown. The youngster is a player who is equally adept to playing in midfield and the defense, a trait which Wenger likes. He is also confident on the ball and loves to play from the back, another characteristic which Wenger looks out for in a centre back.

Are we going to sign him?

The youngster’s performances have not only attracted our interest but that of Manchester City, Manchester United as well as Celtic. With all these clubs interested in the player, it is going to take a lot of convincing to get the player to join us.

Although his contract at Charlton doesn’t expire until 2019 but the Championship side could be tempted to sell if a big offer comes in.

Wenger was able to convince Rob Holding to join us from League one side Bolton Wanderers in the summer and could rely on that method to lure Konsas.

Moreover, if Konsas is targeting a quick route to playing in the Premier League regularly, then Arsenal is the place for him.

We have a track record of developing youngsters and giving them the chance to become Premier League superstars and he could well be next if he makes the right decision.
