Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham are all battling for Hamilton Academical youngster Ronan Hughes, according to reports.

Arsenal have been linked with a host of talented youngsters in recent weeks, so it is not surprising to me that we are being linked with Academical’s 17 year old midfielder, Hughes.

The midfielder became the youngest player to feature in a top flight game for his club after he made his debut last season at age 17.

Since making his debut, he has impressed scouts with his performances and could now be set for a move to the Premier League.

According to Scottish newspaper Daily Record via The Daily Express, it is Manchester United who are leading the race to sign the youngster.

The youngster is being tipped to follow the path of former Halmiton players James McCarthy and James McArthur who left the Scottish club for the Premier League.

Although Manchester United are leading the race for his signature, Arsenal will continue to keep tabs on Hughes development and I don’t expect us to give up on his pursuit without a fight considering how talented he is.

We curently have talented young players like Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Chris Willock and Alex Iwobi in our ranks but a move for Hughes could be a shrewd long-term investment.

Hughes has made three senior appearances for his team this season and will be looking to add to it in the coming weeks.
