Young French forward, Nabil fekir, has blown air into the blacksmith’s fire with an ecstatic appreciation of the reports linking him to Arsenal.
The 21-year old has attracted inquisition from the Emirates this season, currently enjoying a successful spell with high flying Lyon in the Ligue 1. Former French Arsenal player turned scout, Giles Grimandi, has reportedly given good accounts of the youngster, with a potential offer to be made to bring him to London.
Speaking with Telefoot, Fekir did not mask his desire to see the newspaper rumours come through someday, even if he declared the compulsory loyalty to his current employers.
“Arsenal? It’s a pleasure to know that clubs are interested,” he said.
“But for now I’m well at OL.”
“I’m an ambitious person. I hope I’ll get to play in a big club one day. It’s a dream. I hope I’ll be able to realize it someday.”
It’s a big dream many players have to move up the ladder in their professional careers and it is not surprising Fekir has the same ambitions. Despite a few years of slow progress, the French-Algerian has really been killing it in the Championnat this season, with 6 goals and 3 assists in 14 games which are definitely positive numbers for a youthful attacking midfielder.
His debut did come over a year ago at the Stade Gerland, but this has really been Nabil’s breakout season in the Ligue 1, developing some consistency in his game which has seen him more of a goal threat in resonance with the wide attacking potential he has always had. Lyon currently lie third on the log in the race for the Championnat this season and it is largely due to the understanding between him and two other, Alexandre Lacazette, Dimitri Payet.
Lyon could be hesitant in letting go of the promising youngster especially as they have let him go in the past but have had to recall him due to very impressive talent shown upon departure, again considering they are aiming for a real push for a Champions League place. He would also likely want to stay and prove himself for a whole season there, rather than make a midseason exit in the winter which could work against the momentum he has at the moment.
Having waited long to get real opportunities to show his stuff, Nabil has earned himself widespread acclaim this season as one of the brightest prospects of French football, leading to him earning his first call to any French National team set up, starring for Yaya Sanogo and co in the Under-21s.
Wenger loves a good talent, especially the French ones, and there is every chance he will be keeping a closer look at the Nabil’s ratings this season, especially if they sustain their position on the log.
