Arsenal Lead PSG & Juve In Chase For £40m Rated La Liga World Quarter Finalist

Real Madrid ace striker, Karim Benzema, is the subject of a three-horse race involving Arsenal, Juventus and big-spending french Champions, Paris Saint-Germain according to reports. Benzema is one of Wenger’s most admired strikers and has been keeping track of the player since his days at Lyon, waiting for the right opportunity to pounce.

This season has seen him fluorish more with 11 goals in 17 appearances, seemingly exorcising the ghosts of previous seasons which has seen him assume a more peripheral role amongst the Ronaldo- Bale combinations. Despit this decent start, he still remains undervalued at the Santiago Bernabeu, prompting the interest of many clubs.

His form at the moment will encourage the Bernabeu bosses to retain him as part of their plans for the next couple of years, meaning Wenger may have to wait till the summer of 2016 before there could be any real opening for a move to bring him to the Emirates.

Real Madrid’s policy of renewing the face of the squad by shuffling the team with the hottest new stars has seen them willingly let go of some of their biggest stars over the past two seasons, Gonzalo Higuain, Angel di Maria and Mesut Ozil the most shining examples. Benzema may have been retained to retain the commercial value associated with having a big name strikee in their forward line since Jesse Rodriguez is still learning his trade. Luis Suarez’s availability this summer had reportedly got Fiorentino Perez interested, implying that they may actually be willing to listen to offers for Benzema.

Arsenal’s urgent need in the coming transfer window is, without doubt, to add more equipment to the defensive machinery in the team but there has also been an agreement that the absence of a truly clinical center-forward has worked against the Gunners efforts to mount any imposing challenge for trophies both locally and in Europe. While Olivier Giroud has shown improvement over the past two seasons and Welbeck showing signs that he would come good, we’d surely do well with a striker on whom we could depend to deliver on a regular 20+ basis in the League.

It remains to be seen if a Benzema in 2 years time would atill be worth a punt considering the likelihood that many other youngsters would have come up to the stage, making a claim for the attention of top clubs. A few of our homegrown youngsters like Benik Afobe and Chuba Akpom would surely have an opinion on this too when the time comes.
