Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has urged Arsene Wenger to pass up the opportunity of taking over the affairs of the England national team.

Wenger is reportedly one of the top targets to replace Sam Allardyce as England boss and the French tactician is reportedly open to the possibility of managing the Three Lions.

Wenger’s contract at Arsenal expires at the end of the current campaign, he is yet to enter talks with the club over a new deal and It is believed the English FA are being boosted by the fact that the French man will be out of contract next summer.

However, Wright wants his former manager to snub the England job, claiming the criticism associated with the post isn’t worth it.

“Don’t do the England job – it’s too much pressure,’” he said, speaking on the BBC’s Match of the Day

“He’s going to get so much stick. See the amount of stick he’s getting from Arsenal when he’s trying to do his stuff.”

“I wouldn’t like to see him go through 20 years and the last 10 years [how] it’s been for him – and then go to England and it not quite work out and he gets that kind of stick as well.”

Wenger is yet to make a decision on his future and it would not be surprising if he takes up the job as he recently flirted with reports linking him with the post.

Former England international Gareth Southgate will be in charge of the England team for the next international games while the FA searches for Allardyce’s successor.
