Arsenal looking to beat Liverpool to £150,000-A-Week World Cup star.

Arsenal and Liverpool look set to go head to head for the signature of World Cup star as both Premier League giants prepare ahead of time for January business.

The destination of French striker, Karim Benzema, has assumed a whirling uncertain route as Arsenal have now re-emerged in the hunt for his signature.

The Real Madrid Number 9 is not seen as an inevitable string in the fabric of the attack at Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale bearing the bulk of attention. Most pundits believe Benzema may have just escaped the broom with the clear out that took place this summer, and it is thought that an exciting January offer would be good enough to attempt Madrid into the opening of negotiations.

Benzema is one of Wenger’s most admired strikers and has been keeping track of the player since his days at Lyon, waiting for the right opportunity to pounce. Though with an impressive goal average for the Los Blancos having netted 113 goals in 243 appearances, he still remains undervalued at the Santiago Bernabeu, prompting the interest of many clubs.

Liverpool’s loss of Luis Suarez has seen them scour the market for another top class center forward, having struggled to joggle Mario Balotelli into any kind of scoring form, Daniel Sturridge being currently injured.

With both clubs fighting for the title as well as aiming for extended and successful runs in the Champions League, there will be a need for pretty large squads to supplement for injuries. Arsenal already have Olivier Giroud out until the New Year, while others like Ramsey and Ozil are long-term absentees from other departments of the team, with Welbeck’s ankle the recent cause for concern.

Meanwhile, Wenger may find solace in another Frenchman if he eventually misses out on Benzema, with reports that an approach is in the works for Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac. The big Number 9 has been in scintillating form for the Stade de Velodrome outfit, netting 12 times in just 9 games and also getting on the scoresheet for Les Blues in their recent friendly win. The player is said to be inclined to make the move away from France to establish himself at a top club where he can show his ability to compete for places in the French team, against the likes of Loic Remy, Olivier Giroud and Karim Benzema.
