Arsenal Make Contact With Agent, Sergio Ramos Heading To The Emirates?

Shocking reports making the rounds have it that Spanish star defender, Sergio Ramos, has been contacted by Arsenal over a potential move in January.

Ramos’s brother, Rene, acts as his agent and it is been reported in Spain that Wenger has made contact with him over a possible January move. There is a feeling that Sergio is not very much valued in Madrid at the moment by the hierarchy despite being at the core of a successful year that has brought four trophies, scoring a crucial last-gasp equalizer in the Champions League Final against Atletico in May.

Wenger’s rejection of a move for Tyrone Mings could only mean the boss is looking out for an immediate fix for his defence, rather than a potential for the future. Top class defenders are always rare to poach in the winter as clubs fight to keep their prized assets at least to the end of the season.

Ramos is 27 and is one of the best defenders in the world, the best this year in fact. Perhaps he may be gullible to some mishaps but no one spends a decade at the Bernabeu without being top class. A leader in both Madrid and the Spanish National team, there will be few teams who will not want to sign him if he were really available and Arsenal will definitely be in front of that queue.

The Mertesacker-Koscielny partnership has not been enjoyed this season with injuries to the Frenchman while Mertesacker himself has been under intense scrutiny for his performances this season. With a World Cup winners medal recently got from Brazil, perhaps the German would be in need of some serious competition from an already proven defender. He’s probably jaded now and badly in need of rest. And ever-present campaign last season plus a World Cup should be enough to ruffle anyone.

There will be great skepticism about the possibility of pulling of the Ramos deal as Madrid do not even trust a Varane-Pepe pair, and do not have any other defenders to call up. However, it’d be a hug e statement of our arrival as a force in the market if we did make it through. Ozil and Alexis were signed because, though top players, they became available as they were no more wanted by their clubs, which is not the case with Ramos as he is considered a legend by a great section of the Madristas.
