Arsene Wenger has apparently ruled himself out of the running to become the next England manager.
The boss who has less than one year left in his contract is said to be top of the FA’s wish list to replace Sam Allardyce who was axed last two weeks for breaking the FA rules.
He has now ruled himself out of the job, claiming the next Three Lions manager should be an English man. He also revealed the FA has not contacted him as regards taking the job and is fully focused on our club.
“It’s very important [that it’s an Englishman],” Wenger said in an interview with beIN Sports, as quoted by the Independent.
“I’ve always said that England has a huge football passion and if tomorrow you have a game with France then it would be difficult [for me] not to sing the national anthem.
“It’s logical. I thought they’d say I’m half English after being here for 20 years! It’s better to have an Englishman.
“It would be difficult to manage another English club team. The national team is different. But my first priority has always been Arsenal.”
Wenger added that: “There has been no contact.”
Wenger’s comments will come as a huge boost to as many Gooners who want him to remain at the Emirates beyond the current campaign.
We are also happy with his decision to focus on our club alone as winning the Premier League this season is the priority and to successfully do that, you have to cut off all distractions.
