Arsenal great Ray Parlour thinks that the Gunners need to make two marquee signings this summer if they are serious about competing for the Premier League.
The former midfielder claims that the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea, all of who have been busy in the transfer window, will be favourites for the title.
The Gunners’ only major transfer activity this summer has been the arrival of midfielder Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach and Parlour feels a central defender and striker are required if Arsene Wenger’s side are to challenge the aforementioned trio.
He said: “It’s going to be difficult for Arsenal. A few signings have been missed maybe.
“There’s still time. I’m still hopeful Arsenal can bring a couple of players in. They need to. It’s going to be a tough season otherwise.
“City are favourites for the title. They’ve signed a lot of players and Sergio Aguero could well end up top scorer this season.
“United have so many options now they have to be regarded as second favourites, and Chelsea could have a good season too.
“It’s a lottery. But many punters might say they’d be surprised if Arsenal win the league.
“If they get a quality defender and a quality striker in they will have a chance. (Alexandre) Lacazette has been mentioned, and they’ve looked at (Shkodran) Mustafi.
“They will have much more chance of winning the league if they get them. But they’re still up against City, United and Chelsea. It wouldn’t guarantee anything.”
