Luis Enrique is set to succeed Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager, according to MailOnline.

The Gunners today confirmed that Wenger would stand down as manager of the club after 22 years at the end of the season, and former Barcelona coach Enrique is set to write the next chapter of Arsenal’s history.

Enrique left Barcelona at the end of his contract in the summer of 2017 to take a sabbatical leave, and he has been frequently linked with a return to football by way of the Premier League.

While Chelsea and Everton have been linked in recent months, Arsenal looks likely to be his next destination now that Wenger has stood down as manager.

MailOnline claim that negotiations between the club and Enrique are well advanced, and a deal for him to take over at the end of the season should go ahead, so long as there are no last minute glitches.

Arsenal’s new director of football relations Raul Sanllehi made the approach to Enrique, with the director having formed a close relationship with Enrique while he was with Barcelona.

While Wenger gave his recommendation of Patrick Vieira to replace him, Arsenal have been eyeing Enrique after watching how Pep Guardiola has influenced Manchester City

With the club looking likely to miss out on Champions League qualification this season, unless they win the Europa League, Arsenal want a Spanish revolution at the Emirates.
