Arsenal have been searching for a replacement for Arsene Wenger, who left at the end of the season after almost 22 years in charge of the club.
Arteta has headed the Gunners’ wishlist and has been tipped to succeed Wenger along with Massimiliano Allegri and Luis Enrique.
Recent reports have suggested that Arteta will only take charge of the Gunners if he gets control over transfers.
Whoever succeeds Wenger is expected to be handed a kitty of £50million.
And now according to the Daily Mirror, Arteta is expected to take over the reins at the Emirates.
Pep Guardiola has already made it clear hewon’t stand in the way of the Manchester City assistant coach leaving.
A deal in principle has been agreed between both clubs, the report adds, and an announcement is expected soon.
The Mirror also claim that news of Arteta’s impending appointment coincides with Jack Wilshere, who looks set to sign a new three-year deal with a further 12-month option.
Former Arsenal defender William Gallas is surprised about the developments surrounding his old club on the managerial front.
Speaking about Arteta, he said: “I’d be surprised. I don’t know him as a manager.
“Yes, he was assistant coach with Guardiola but it’s completely different when you are in charge of 24 players. You have to manage 24 players.”
