Arsenal are on the brink on missing out on the signing of Celta Vigo forward Nolito.
The Gunners had initially fallen behind in the race for the Spaniard after Goal reported La Liga Champions Barcelona were trying to negotiate a fee below his release clause. However, its Premier League rivals Liverpool who now lead the race after activating the striker’s release clause.
talkSPORT via the Daily Star claim the Merseysiders, who are also currently chasing Shakhtar Donetsk winger Alex Teixeira, have met the striker’s £13.6m release clause.
Celta’s director of football Miguel Torrecilla had earlier insisting the 29-year-old would only be allowed to leave if his release clause is met.
He said: “Whoever wants Nolito has to pay his release clause now.”
Arsenal’s interest in the in form striker as reported by Mundo Deportivo in very concrete.
The Spanish forward was in fantastic form for Celta in the first half of the current campaign netting an impressive eight goals and registering five assists to his name in just fifteen appearances.
With just three days till the close of the transfer window, Wenger must quickly put in his offer or decide to move on to other targets.
