Arsenal are closing in on landing Exeter City’s teenage prodigy, Ethan Ampadu, according to Daily Star.
The 14-year old central midfielder has caught the eye of the Premier League’s biggest clubs including United, Chelsea and Liverpool, being tipped for a big career ahead.
Ampadu has recently been the subject of a tussle between England and Wales having trained with the England Under-15s at St. Georges’ in October but still seen as a Welsh player, and by all accounts, he will still be a major bone of contention amongst the clubs.
Ethan is the son of former Arsenal player and current Academy coach Kwame Ampadu, who had spent the tail of his career at Ethan’s current club. The teenage sensation will be looking to surpass his old man, though, if he moved to Arsenal, as Kwame could only appear twice in the League during a four year playing period at Highbury.
Arsenal will surely afford the youngster the facilities and suitable environment to accelerate his development and the fact that his father is part of the academy set up could be the tie breaker that gives us the edge in the chase for his signature, as United, Chelsea and Liverpool are also on his trail. In truth, all three teams have the potential to steal the countries best talents from the lower teams, though United and Liverpool have been closer to Arsenal in giving youth a chance in the first team, much more than Chelsea who have relied more on big money foreign imports.
Despite the stick he got for letting go of United Academy product, Danny Welbeck go to Arsenal and the reluctance to involve Adnan Januzaj as much this season, Louis van Gaal has earned some praise for his faith in the youngsters such as Tyler Blackett, McNair, and James Wilson, showing he has some interest in seeing to the growth of the younger generation into the first team.
Arsenal, though, are leading the way and we have been very much on track in youth recruitment processes over the past few years especially with the Under-15s, with the signings of the likes of Daniel Crowley from Aston Villa last year, followed up by the acquisition of Ben Sheaf from West Ham.
There is still some way to go before we land the sucker punch but the chasing trio might as well give up now as it won’t be long before the Fellaini-haired potential lands at the Emirates.
