Arsenal are seriously interested in Borussia Mochengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, according to reports.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates recently and the Mirror now claims Arsenal have moved to sign the midfielder as the club have opened talks with Borussia Monchengladbach over a summer move.

The report claims Arsenal made an official bid of £24m but the German club want as much as £32m. However, the Gunners are confident a deal will be reached as soon as possible. Arsenal are keen to do their business early this time around and they have made a move now in order to sign Xhaka quickly.

The club is reportedly preparing for a major overhaul of the midfield personnels with Tomas Rosicky, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini set to leave the club this summer.

Arsenal have been linked with a host of midfielders but Xhaka’s name has been a constant feature in the Gunner’s rumour mill and despite the signing of Mohamed Elneny last winter, Wenger could still add the Switzerland international to his squad.

It is believed that Wenger is convinced Xhaka is the man to bolster the squad after watching the midfielder over 30 times this season.
