Arsenal have made an attempt to open talks with Monaco for Marcel Tisserand.

The Mirror says Espanyol were hoping to sign the 23-year-old DR Congo international, but the deal has been put on hold with the player anxious to see if the Gunners’ interest comes to anything.

Tisserand, who can play at right-back and centre-back, has struggled to establish himself at Monaco.

Arsenal, who have centre-backs Per Mertesacker and Gabriel out injured until December and for another month respectively, have been weighing up various options.
