Arsenal will compete with Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United to sign Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan this summer, according to reports.

The 29-year-old Belgium international has been strongly linked with a move to England in the past, and those rumours have resurfaced due to his brilliant campaign for Roma.

The commanding midfielder has played a starring role in their run to the Champions League semi-finals and is famed for his strong challenges, driving runs and fierce right foot.

Amid the renewed speculation over his I Giallorossi future, Nainggolan has insisted he is happy in the Italian capital, but it is claimed the Italian club may be forced to sell him in the upcoming transfer window to balance the books.

Roma recorded losses of £36million in the last financial year and, with two loan deals set to be made permanent at the end of the season, it is claimed they may need to cash in on one star player.

Nainggolan is one of the club’s biggest assets and with a host of clubs interested, he could be the man to leave.

And, according to The Sun, Arsenal have joined Chelsea and Man United in the race for the Belgian ace.

The report claims Luis Enrique, the current favourite to succeed Arsene Wenger as manager at the end of the season, is keen on making Nainggolan his first signing at the Emirates Stadium for around £45million.

The Gunners will face competition but Nainggolan may be tempted to choose under-achieving Arsenal over Chelsea and Man United, after admitting he never wants to join a “winning team”.

Earlier this month, the Roma star said: “I’ve never won anything, but I think that for those who know me, I’ve always played to win.

“Sometimes I prefer to take the hardest path. It would be too easy to go to a winning team and win.

“For me, it’s better to be a leading light for a less-favoured team and win with them.

“I chose Roma for that reason too. It’s an important club, and a club like Roma deserve to win something important.”
