Arsenal have sent scouts in recent weeks to the Netherlands to run the rule over PSV’s Matthias Verreth, according to reports.
Verreth is currently playing for PSV’s B team and has been impressive for the club in the Dutch second division.
The 18 year old who hails from Belgium plays primarily as a left winger and has helped PSV second team to the top of the Dutch second division table.
According to Italian Website Calcio Mercato via the Express, Arsenal and AC Milan have been alerted by the winger’s performances.
The report claims Arsenal have sent scouts to watch the winger in action and have been impressed by what have seen so far.
It may be surprising to some that we are being linked with a player in the Dutch second division but one can’t really say if he will end up at Arsenal in the future.
Although, Koscielny was brought to Arsenal in similar fashion, having caught the attention of Arsene Wenger while playing in the French Ligue 2 and today he is regarded as one of Premier League’s finest defenders.
That is not to say Verreth is certain to join us, we have scouted a lot of players in the past and many of them didn’t end up with us, so scouting Verreth doesn’t necessarily mean we will make a move for him in the future. But, if he continues to improve, he could just be the next Laurent Koscielny for Arsenal.
