In what would be regarded as a rather “unnecessary” move, Arsenal are battling to sign Torino right back Bruno Peres, according to reports.

According to Italian publication Tuttosport via Sports Witness, Arsenal and Manchester City are in the race to sign Peres. It was claimed Torino recently received a bid for the defender from England.

Although the club from which the official offer came from wasn’t named but it was believed to be between €15m and €18m.

It is expected that Torino would reject the bid as the Italian club are not prepared to sell their prized asset for any fee less than €20m. Talking on the reported offer, Torino president Bruno Cairo recently said he won’t let the defender leave on a cheap.

“I won’t give him away for these numbers.”

German giants Bayern Munich, Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen as well as French champions Paris Saint Germain are rumored to be interested in the defender.

However, the chances are slim that Wenger would sign a right back this summer as the club is well stocked with right sided defenders.

Wenger currently has Hector Bellerin, Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and Carl Jekinson as his right back options and he would need to move at least two of the above named players if he is to sign another full back.
