Ex Arsenal defender Johan Djorou has thrown his support behind Arsene Wenger claiming the French man should not be held responsible for the team’s failure to win the League title in recent years.
The team failed to successfully challenge Leicester City for the Premier League title which extended its wait for a top flight trophy to twelve consecutive years.
Wenger received serious criticism for the team’s failure but Djourou has backed the manager claiming the wait for a league title will soon end.
“They haven’t won it for a long time. That hurts them. It hurts the club, the fans, the players of course. It’s not like they don’t want to win,” the Switzerland international told the Daily Mail, as quoted by Squawka.
“It’s important people know that. Every time they don’t win they are criticised for not winning more than any other club.
“But there are a lot of positive things, they are just missing some little pieces to the puzzle. I’m sure they will get it right.”
Djourou also urged the fans not to forget the good deeds Wenger has done in his 20 year stint at the club.
“We’re in a game now where it’s changed – people expect more. They are frustrated.
“I can understand that, but they shouldn’t forget what Arsène has done for this club. We can forget so quickly.”
Djourou was a Gunner for ten years before he moved to Bundesliga side Hamburg two years ago.
