Arsenal legend Ian Wright has urged Wenger to make a move for Chelsea’s Diego Costa.
Costa has been told he has no future at Stamford Bridge but the Spaniard is struggling to secure a move away, after indicating his desire to only return to Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish club are currently banned from signing players, that coupled with Chelsea’s £50m valuation is making it difficult for a deal to be completed.
Chelsea have since signed Alvaro Morata to replace Costa while Arsenal have signed Alexandre Lacazette for a club record £52m fee but Wright wouldn’t mind Wenger splashing the cash on Costa.
Speaking in a recent interview, as quoted by the Metro, Wright said:
‘To be honest, as fanciful and unlikely as it may be, I’d also like to see Arsenal at least dipping their toe in the water for Diego Costa as well.”
‘For all the talk of him going back to Spain, nothing’s been done yet, so at least ask the question.’
‘Because despite all his antics, he is also a brilliant, proven Premier League goalscorer.’
Costa is certainly one of the best strikers around and will be a key player for any team. He played important roles in Chelsea’s last two Premier League triumphs and would have been a good option, if you consider his footballing attributes.
However, Costa’s infectious character off the pitch has always been a problem. His time at Chelsea was shrouded with controversies almost every other time and that kind of player isn’t what Arsenal need at the moment.
Some might say what he does on the pitch is what matters most but as a role model that a footballer is, what a player does off the pitch is equally important.
While Wright could be right for clamoring for a player like Costa, I think we would be better off staying away from him.
How about you? What do you think? Will Costa be a good signing for a club Arsenal?
