Former Arsenal star Perry Groves has urged Arsene Wenger to sign Ross Barkley this summer.
Arsenal are one of the clubs reportedly interested in the midfielder along with Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.
Barkley has one year left in his contract at Everton and is 100% certain to leave Everton this summer and Groves believes he will be a perfect addition to the Gunners’ squad.
Speaking in an interview with Bwin, Groves claimed Barkley will be a perfect signing for Arsenal and his versatility would be a major asset.
“I’m a massive Ross Barkley fan and think he could be perfect for us. I’d absolutely love him at Arsenal,” said Groves, as quoted by the Daily Cannon.
“He’s got something that other players don’t have. If you can get Barkley for £25m, that’s a no-brainer.
“He could play behind Lacazette or alongside Xhaka – I’d love to have him.
“At this stage of his career, the money should not be the driving force. He wants to test himself and needs to do so at a club like Arsenal to earn the right to demand such money.
“I think he’ll end up at Spurs or Chelsea, which would be a real shame as he’s entering the peak stage of his career.
“Too many people look at the negative aspects to Ross’ game rather than what he can do.”
Everton are reportedly demanding around £50m for the midfielder but suitors are reluctant to pay that much.
With the transfer window, closing in on the final days, Everton would be tempted to reduce their demands and I am sure Arsenal will be among the clubs trying to sign him for a reasonable fee.
One problem with Barkley is his inconsistency. The midfielder usually has one good games and then two average games. His potential isn’t in doubt but I don’t think Arsenal needs a player who can’t perform at the top level on a consistent basis.
Fellow Gooners, should Arsenal focus on Barkley’s good traits only and then sign him or weigh both sides of his game before making a move for him? Your opinions will be appreciated.
