Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker believes Francis Coquelin should have shown more discipline in Saturday’s Derby Draw against Tottenham, via the Express.
The French man saw red against Tottenham for a Challenge on Harry Kane early in the second half and Mertesacker believes the player should have done better. And his ill-discipline cost the Gunners their lead as Spurs scored twice in less than 10 minutes.
Alexis Sanchez grabbed an equaliser for Arsenal which helped the Gunners to a 2-2 draw. But Mertesacker believes the midfielder’s mistake cost the Gunners the chance to claim all three points at White Hart Lane.
Metersacker said: “I think we need to be more disciplined in those occasions. There was no danger, he was at the sideline as well.
“It took us 15 minutes to cope with that, being one man down, but after we played fantastically and could have scored a third one I think.
“We had couple of good breaks and how the team responded after 15 minutes was great.
“In between it took us a bit but in the heat of the game it is difficult. Overall, the spirt is great and we fought until the end.”
Arsenal currently sit 8 points behind league leaders Leceister City as the Foxes took advantage of the North London derby draw by defeating Watford 1 nil later on Saturday.
