Arsenal defender Vincent Koscielny has paid tribute to Arsene Wenger for the role he played in his development.
Koscielny is regarded by many as one of Europe’s best defenders and the France international has revealed that our boss played a key role in helping him become who he is today.
Wenger celebrated his 20 years anniversary as Arsenal boss last weekend and Koscielny believes the way his career has turned out is one of the reasons why the 66 year old has been so successful.
“He was the man who gave me the chance to move to a big club”, Koscielny said, as quoted by Goal.
“He took the risk of buying me in a small club (Lorient), and make me grow as a player and man.
“He managed his bet I think I try to prove that he was right to trust me.
“I want to give him back that, but I’m not the only example, there have been many. He did a great job during his years at Arsenal.”
Wenger signed Koscielny from FC Lorient in the third tier of the French league as an unknown player five years ago and helped him develop into one of Europe’s finest defenders.
The boss has come under a lot of stick recently from fans for his failure to win a major league title since 2004. Although he has won three Premier League titles and six FA cups in his 20 years at the club, majority of them came in his early days at the club.
Wenger doesn’t want to be remembered for the trophies he won and those that he didn’t win but wants players like Koscielny who he has helped develop into fine players to be his legacy when he leaves our club.
