Laurent Koscielny has hailed Arsene Wenger as one of the best managers in football.
The defender was speaking of how Wenger helped him attain the status of a world class defender from an unknown player in the French League.
The French man was playing for FC Lorient when Wenger spotted him and brought him to the Emirates in 2010. The boss was criticized at that time for his supposed lack of ambition for signing an unknown player when our rivals were signing established stars.
Koscielny has now hailed Wenger for his influence in his career and admits he feels indebted to the tactician.
“If I’m with the France team, with Arsenal, it’s because of him,” Koscielny told French paper L’Equipe .
“He’s the one who brought me here. He’s the one who had the balls to buy me from Lorient when I was a nobody.
“It was my first year in Ligue 1, at a mid-table club.
“It was a gamble for a club like Arsenal, one of the top 10 in Europe.
“He took a risk to bring me here, to help me grow as a player and as a man. I’ll be in his debt for all my career.”
I don’t think there is any of us who isn’t thankful that Koscielny is with us. His signing is one of those that should make us appreciate all Wenger has done for us in the 20 years he has spent as boss.
Although we have failed to win major honors in recent years, helping players fulfill their dreams of being top stars is something we have to be proud of as fans and hopefully they will repay our good deeds by winning titles for the club.
