Ex Gunner Ian Wright has backed Theo Walcott to play a key role in the team this season, as we aim at the Premier League title.

We have started this season in fine form, securing nineteen points from our first eight games which has placed us second on the log table only behind league leaders Manchester City on goal difference and our superb form has got many thinking this could be our year after a 12 year title drought.

What’s different about the previous seasons is our performances in the games we have played so far, it’s been breath taking and every of our player now looks better compared to last season. The most surprising of them is Theo Walcott who has already scored five league goals which is the same number he scored last season.

While many are still trying to phantom what has changed in the winger, Wright believes he will be a big player for us this season should he continue to perform at this level.

Wright who scored important goals in his time with us has backed Walcott to do same this term.

“He scored two really good goals,” Wright told BT Sport, as quoted by Sports Review.

“Yes – you’d want him to be more ruthless and finish those other chances as well and make it even more comfortable. You have to take what you get.”

Wright added: “We are getting more this season. He has equalled his tally with five goals.

“As his confidence grows and he continues to score, he will score more important goals because he is in a rich vein of goal-scoring at the minute.”

Walcott is our longest serving player and it is only normal that he is a key player for us. He hasn’t been living up to expectations all these years and it is good news now that he is beginning to produce the goods.

The winger’s current form surely has taken many fans by surprise and I’m sure many of us have been delighted with his performances so far. We are hoping he continues to perform like this for the rest of the campaign so we stand a good chance of winning the league title.
