Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny believes he and summer signing Shkodran Mustafi will need more time to develop a solid partnership.

The duo have received praises for their superb performance in recent weeks but Koscielny believes they have the ability to perform better.

They both helped the club to its first consecutive clean sheets of the season after wins against Chelsea, Basel and Burnley in the past week.

Koscielny has already developed a good understanding with Mustafi and the pair have complimented each other well on the pitch but the French international believes there is still room for improvement.

Speaking after the consecutive clean sheet, Koscielny was happy that the team didn’t concede a goal.

He said: “We kept another clean sheet, so it is very good,” he said. “[Mustafi and I] need time to know each other well and it is very important to communicate well.

“We did a good job because the whole team defended well and when we play like this, with all the players helping their team-mates, it is easier for us at the back.”

The two centre backs have played together for less than a month and the Gooners have been impressed by what they have seen so far.

The Centre back pairing limited Chelsea to just one shot on target last weekend and also limited Basel to two shots on target on Wednesday.
