Arsenal have opened contract renewal talks with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to reports.
Chamberlain’s contract expires at the end of next season and reports have been linking him with a move to Liverpool.
Klopp is believed to be a big admirer of Chamberlain and is reportedly prepared to table a big offer for the midfielder if he decides to leave Arsenal.
However, The Gunners have no interest in selling and have commenced negotiations over a new deal with the midfielder.
The Sun via The Express claims talks between both parties commenced last week and it is still in its preliminary stage.
The report suggests the Gunners don’t want negotiations to drag on for long and Wenger is keen for the midfielder to sign fresh terms as soon as possible.
The new deal is expected to take the Chamberlain’s wages to around £100,000 a week, making him one of the top earners at the club.
Chamberlain might be concerned about how much playing time he would get if he decides to stay at the Emirates. He started just 16 of Arsenal’s Premier League games last season and will be desperate to feature more next year.
The news that Arsenal have made moves to secure Chamberlain’s future will come as huge blow to Liverpool who were monitoring his situation with keen interest.
The midfielder was brilliant for Arsenal in the closing stages of last season and that might have strengthened Wenger’s resolve to keep him by all means
